World Standards Day

World Standards Day is an annual day which is celebrated every year on 14 October around the world. World Standards Day aims to enhance awareness among industry, regulators, and consumers as to the significance of standardization to the world economy.

History of World Standards Day

World Standards Day was first organized in 1946. The 14 October was officially chosen the date in 1946 when official delegates from 25 countries first gathered in London, and in this gathering, they decided to make an international organization which is focused on facilitating standardization. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was envisaged during the conference, and one year later, ISO was formed. In 1970 the World Standards Day was first celebrated.

World Standards Day was organized to enhance more and more awareness about the significance of standardization to the international economy among the industrial sectors, consumers, and regulators. Standardization is the way of progress and implementation of technical standards.

With the celebration of World Standards Day, a tribute is paid to different volunteers worldly who take part in activities which are related to standardization. The national authorities selected various events around the world to celebrate World Standards Day. The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) celebrates World Standards Day with international society. The SCC is the national accreditation body of Canada. It observes the World Standards Day close to the dates of the international observance.
